When choosing the right vacuum for your facility you may be wondering should I get a upright vacuum or a backpack vacuum?

How to choose the right vacuum.

There are two types of vacuums commonly found in commercial buildings.

Let's discuss backpack vacuums first

Backpack vacuums there are corded and cordless backpack vacuums. Backpack vacuums are great for commercial grade carpet. Commonly called CGD (commercial glue down) carpet. It is very low pile carpet not thick carpet and is glued to the floor.

Backpack vacuums do a great job on this type of carpet. When you purchase a backpack vacuum you normally get other attachments. That come with your backpack vacuum.

Normally you get a dusting brush. A crevice tool. And a hard floor tool and a carpet tool. A backpack vacuum can do anywhere between 7000 to 12000 square feet a hour depending on the layout of your facility. Some backpack vacuums do have a brush attachment that you can put on it that has a brush roller on it. But normally in commercial facilities it's just a back paint vacuum and it sucks up debris off the floor and it's not have a brush.

In the commercial cleaning industry we prefer to use backpack vacuums they have great suction and can cover a lot of square footage quickly.

They are easy to maintain as well.

Corded versus cordless backpack vacuums.

Corded backpack vacuums are great but you do have to keep moving the plug so you can have power throughout the facility. And come at a reasonable cost anywhere between 700 to $1,000.

Cordless back paint vacuums are great because you do not have to have a cord dragging behind you. And can move throughout the facility in any direction. Cordless backpack vacuums however do cost more for the initial investment

Anywhere between $1200 to 2000 this is including charger and batteries. Cordless backpack vacuums do seem to be quicker at vacuuming than a corded backpack vacuum. Due to you don't have a cord to drag behind you and find plugs to plug into.

Upright vacuums

Upright vacuums you can buy them in cordless and corded models. Cordless upright vacuums are good because they have no cord but they are a little bit of an investment to get started with and of course a cordedvacuum would have better suction than a cordless.

Upright vacuums production rates are between 2500 and 3500 square feet per hour.

A upright vacuum however does have the beater bar on the bottom so it will dig deeper into the carpet and get out more soil out of your carpet.

What to look for when buying a upright vacuum?

When buying a upright vacuum things to look for is how easy is it to remove a clog in the vacuum.

Where is the hose located on the vacuum. If the hose is in the middle of the vacuum where the brush head is it is a better vacuum we have found. The ones where the hose is on the side The brush has to push all the dirt to the one side. So we prefer the hose to be in the middle of the vacuum.
